This isn’t about lipstick.
Wear the goddamn lipstick, I told myself.
Wear the lipstick.
You’re only here for a little while.
One day, no one will ever see you smile.
Again.
Wear the lipstick, if that’s what you choose.
Who cares if it’s not “your” style. You make the rules.
You don’t like lipstick, okay that’s fair. Let’s do some new analogies.
Apply for that job. Write that book. Climb that mountain. Tell that girl you love her.
Still no good, let’s get generic:
Follow your heart. Chase your dreams. Take the leap. Carpe diem!
We only get a blip, a moment on the radar in the grand scheme of things.
Live your life to the fullest, embrace all that it brings.
The love, the loss, the joy and the pain. It’s all we can do while we exist on this plane.
Do the things that make you happy. Embrace the style, the music, the hobbies, whatever it is you’re drawn to.
Take the trips, within your limits, do all the things you like!
Find joy and satisfaction in the daily pursuit of peace and jubilation.
Because one day, maybe not too long from now, your loved one will get a phone call informing them that you are no longer here. In this life, death is pretty much the only certainty.
Live while you’re alive. Love while you can.
We only have a moment, the blink of an eye. Embrace your life now. Don’t let it pass you by.
“One day I’ll get around to it.” Only one day never comes. If you keep saying that to yourself either do it or stop wanting to. Do what you want to do.
As much as you can with the hand you’ve been dealt, make the most of this life.
You can start by loving yourself enough to wear the lipstick that you want to wear but are too afraid. Afraid of messing it up, afraid of being seen, or being told “You aren’t the kind of girl who can pull off red lipstick.” Then telling yourself, “Red lipstick is for confident girls, pretty girls. Red lipstick isn’t for you.”
I know it’s silly, and ever so valley girl, but it’s my current struggle, the one that produced this piece you are still reading…
