Heartbeats and Persons

2 min readJun 12, 2021

You say life begins with a heartbeat, but does mine no longer beat to keep me alive?

Am I not a person?

When one life exists solely by feeding off the organs, the blood, the heartbeat of another, the life it depends on matters more.

The life of the born trumps the unborn

unless the woman bearing the unborn child, who is flesh of her flesh and feeding off her flesh

living only because of the born woman

the one who was once unborn who exists by the grace of her mother, says otherwise.

There is power in our ability to bring forth life,

power men have feared for years and years

that’s why they lit us on fire and took away our power and

condemned us to be home, barefoot, pregnant with no influence

no outside resources

just like in the times of Jesus which is why he cared so much for the widow and the orphan.

If Jesus lived today he would be pro-abortion. Pro-woman. Pro-she-always-owns-her-body.

And that means she might make a choice you wouldn’t make and that’s okay,

because she’s a whole person and deserves to continue to be a whole person

even while she’s growing what will become a whole person.

It’s only part-person inside.

Autonomous life does not begin before you can live outside the womb.

I don’t care when life begins to you.

To me, it’s life of some sort when there are two pink lines, but that’s my barometer, my choice for me.

I am not so arrogant to think I am in the position to make the most life-altering decision possible for someone else.

To strip away their personhood to make room for the being who can only exist because of the pregnant person.

I will stand up for you to own your body at all times because that’s what this is about.

It’s not about life but control and if you look close enough you’ll see it too.
